Membership Application Information
ACUTA membership is categorized by enrollment and Carnegie Classification as published in the most current Higher Education Directory. The Higher Education Directory (HED) annually publishes enrollments reflecting the number of students enrolled in a degree program from the previous Fall enrollment statistics.
Levels of Institutional Membership Based on Enrollment:
- Tier 1: Less than 2,499
- Tier 2: 2,500 to 5,999
- Tier 3: 6,000 to 11,999
- Tier 4: 12,000 to 19,999
- Tier 5: 20,000 and more
Costs determined by Carnegie Classification as follows:
*Two-year, Tribal, Other:
Tier 1 - $321, Tier 2 - $466, Tier 3 - $611, Tier 4 - $757, Tier 5 - $901.
**Comprehensive/Liberal Arts:
Tier 1 - $390; Tier 2 - $536; Tier 3 - $681; Tier 4 - $826; Tier 5 - $971.
***Doctoral/Research/Medical:
Tier 1 - $491; Tier 2 - $636; Tier 3 - $782; Tier 4 - $926; Tier 5 - $1,072.
The grouping of Carnegie Classifications are as follows:
(*) Associate Degrees/Tribal/Other General/Specialized.
Includes the following:
Associate's Colleges-Includes institutions where all degrees are at the associate's level, or where bachelor's degrees account for less than 10 percent of all undergraduate degrees;
Special Focus Institutions-Institutions awarding baccalaureate or higher-level degrees where a high concentration of degrees is in a single field or set of related fields;
Tribal Colleges-Colleges and universities that are members of the American Indian High Education Consortium, as identified in IPEDS Institutional Characteristics.
(**)Comprehensive/Liberal Arts.
Includes the following:
Baccalaureate Colleges-Includes institutions where baccalaureate degrees represent at least 10 percent of all undergraduate degrees and that award fewer than 50 master's degrees or fewer than 20 doctoral degrees per year;
Master's Colleges and Universities-Includes institutions that award at least 50 master's degrees per year; Excludes Special Focus institutions and Tribal Colleges.
(***)Doctoral/Research/Medical includes Doctorate-granting Universities that award at least 20 doctoral degrees per year. Excludes Special Focus Institutions and Tribal Colleges
Associate membership application is available to individuals who are involved in any phase of communications technology services at institutions that do not qualify for institutional membership, such as hospitals; federal, provincial, or state agencies; research institutions; college consortia; or other associations of college and university administrators which act directly on behalf of college and university communications technology services and interest. The cost is $200.
